Guest Lecture on Social Media and Privacy Rights
On 23 November, 2017, a guest lecture was organized at Asian Law College for students of BALLB I, BALLB III and LLB I. The guest of honor was Mr. Biju Nayar, a corporate lawyer, and a member of Bar Council of India.
The esteemed guest spoke on various recent issues and the laws concerning the same, for instance screening of the movie Padmavati and the legal aspect involved in the release of the film. The students were acquainted with the Information Technology Act and its various provisions which stands deleted after the pronouncements regarding them by the honorable Supreme Court of India. The importance of Intellectual Property Law was also highlighted in the session by giving instances of Facebook and other social networking sites.
The recognition of right to privacy as a fundamental right guaranteed under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution was also discussed in light of recent apex court judgment i.e. K. S. Puttaswamy and another v Union of India and Others.
At various occasions the esteemed guest gave an opportunity to the students to speak either in favor or against a particular matter to develop their mooting skills, the students were also introduced with the practical, technical aspect of law as contained under Information Technology act by another guest accompanying Mr. Biju Nayar.
The session was wonderful wherein the students were told about being updated on a daily basis about law since law is a dynamic subject. The session also highlighted some of the important branches of law like Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law and Indian Penal Code.
Lawyers were characterized as solution providers to the society and client particularly, how to put forth arguments in an effective manner was also discussed. The students participated with full zeal in the question answer round and were inquisitive about the subject.
